Covid-19 Vaccine
Vaccines give protection to most people around the world. Vaccination should not be feared because it gives more benefit rather than harm. More than a year now, the spread of covid-19 is rampant that’s why experts developed vaccine to control the said virus, or totally eradicate it in the future.
Vaccines contain weakened or inactive parts of a particular organism (antigen) that triggers the immune response within the body. The weakened version will not harm us as some people thinking of, instead, it will prepare the immune system to respond and fight the specific disease causing organism. Some Vaccines require multiple doses to allow the production of long lived antibodies and development of memory cells. In this way, our body is building up memory of the pathogen so as to rapidly fight it if exposed in the future.
No single vaccine provides 100% protection, so being vaccinated does not mean that we can throw caution to the wind and put ourselves and others at risks. Like any medication, vaccines can cause side effects. In most cases, side effects are mild and will gone after a few days. Severe, long-lasting side-effects from vaccines are rare.
The best COVID-19 vaccine is the first one that is available to you. Do not wait for a specific brand. All currently authorized and recommended COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective and reduce your risks of severe illness because it passes in different stages of trials.
There are limited data about the safety of COVID-19 vaccines for people who are pregnant however, studies are on the way and currently, there are no data on the safety of COVID-19 on breastfeeding people or on the effects of mRNA vaccines on the breastfed infant or on milk production or excretion. People with severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to any component of the COVID-19 vaccine should not receive the vaccine. The current mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines were not studied or approved in children younger than 16 years old.
Overall, Vaccines protect us and the people around us. You should have no problem being vaccinated unless you’re ineligible to be vaccinated because of some reasons like allergies, age, etc. We must be strong this pandemic and stay safe.
